NMMS Meeting
 Date: Day, D Month, 2010
 Time: 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Place: New Mexico Museum of Natural History in Albuquerque
or 360B Calle Colina in Santa Fe

Program: US Forest Service veteran Bill Wallis will discuss Fire Ecology. Topic points will include:

  • Large tree tree die-offs, particularly the pines and aspens, including their severity, how wide spread they have been, a history of past episodes, what can be done about them, and what is the long term prognosis for the results.
  • The basic topic could (or should) be fires' role in forest ecology. I would want to hear about historic cycles, meaning changes over dozens to hundreds of years. I also would want to know how forest health has changed since modern forest management has come into play. I expect that club members will want to hear something about how fires stimulate certain fungal fruiting.
