NMMS Meeting
Date: Day, D Month, 2010
Time: 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Place:
New Mexico Museum of Natural
History in Albuquerque
or
360B Calle Colina in Santa
Fe
Program:
US Forest Service veteran Bill Wallis will discuss Fire Ecology. Topic
points will include:
Large tree tree die-offs, particularly the pines and aspens, including
their severity, how wide spread they have been, a history of past episodes,
what can be done about them, and what is the long term prognosis for the
results.
The basic topic could (or should) be fires' role in forest ecology. I
would want to hear about historic cycles, meaning changes over dozens to
hundreds of years. I also would want to know how forest health has changed
since modern forest management has come into play. I expect that club
members will want to hear something about how fires stimulate certain
fungal fruiting.
