President's Message Things are lining up nicely for our August Foray. I was pleased to announce at our last meeting that Steve Trudell from the University of Washington in Seattle will be joining us as our Foray Mycologist. Members will recall Steve in this role during the 1996 Las Vegas and 1999 Jemez Springs Forays. The Foray Committee recently determined a fee and created a registration form for this year's gathering. One difference from the last several years is that non-members will pay an additional $10. I will explain. A couple of months ago, the Board re-affirmed that club membership is based strictly on the calendar year and agreed that people paying their dues after June 30th should pay only half of the annual dues. The Board also decided that the NMMS Foray is a benefit for club members, and if visitors want to attend they should be overjoyed to join our club in order to do so. Thus, non-members, as well as members who have neglected to renew, will pay the pro-rated membership fee in order to attend the Foray. At this point, we have no definite outings planned for June or July. There could be a field trip or two if conditions are moist enough. I expect this will be a good year for Boletus barrowsii and would like to visit the Jemez in search of our state mushroom. We also need to line up at least one scouting trip to Ruidoso prior to the Foray. As a reminder, dates and details for scheduled field trips are available at www.mycowest.org . David Wallis 22may05
