Services
Shacharit for Shabbat and Yom Tov is held at 9:00 am year-round,
and is usually followed by a small kiddush in the shul after Musaf.
Pardes Yisroel has shacharit services on Shabbat, Yom Tov, and often
on chol hamoed. However, as a small community, we generally do not
have a minyan on regular weekdays. If a visitor needs to say Kaddish,
we can arrange minyanim during the week on advance
notice.
Pardes Yisroel also holds weekly Mincha/Kabbalat Shabbat and holiday
Mincha/Ma'ariv services with a shiur between services. These services
begin 15 minutes after candlelighting time, which you can check
on the form to your right.
If you would like to daven in the shul at a time when there is
no organized minyan, please contact us
and we will attempt to arrange entry into the shul.
Accommodations
Because the shul is within two miles of the Plaza, a number of
accommodations are within reasonable walking distance. Here are
the names of some hotels and B&B's, along with distances to
the shul, walking directions, a few comments and links to their
websites when available. The list is not necessarily comprehensive.
- Sage Inn (0.6 mile), 725 Cerrillos
Rd, 982-5952, 160 rooms. The closest accommodations to the shul
and the most cost-effective (if not the most luxurious).
To shul: south on Don Diego to the shul. If you
run out of Don Diego, you've gone 1/2 block too far.
- Travelodge
Santa Fe (0.6 mile), 646 Cerrillos Rd, (505) 982-3551,
1-800-255-3050, 48 rooms. Across the road from and imilar
to the Budget Inn (above). Beware: some rooms are noisy at night
because they back onto an all-night gas station.
To shul: cross Cerrillos, then south on Don Diego
to the shul.
- Hotel
Santa Fe (0.7 mile), Paseo de Peralta at Cerrillos Road,
(505) 982-1200, 1-800-825-9876, 131 rooms, 91 suites. A
lovely new hotel, owned by the Picuris Pueblo Indians.
To shul: southwest on Cerrillos, left on Don Diego to
shul. For a scenic walk, go east on Paseo de Peralta, right
on Galisteo through the rose garden, then right on Alta Vista
and right again on Don Diego to shul.
- Santa
Fe Motel (0.85 mile), 510 Cerrillos Road, (505)
982-1039, 1-800-999-1039, 22 rooms, 5 with kitchens. Nicer
than its name.
To shul: southwest on Cerrillos to Paseo de Peralta, then
follow the directions above from Hotel Santa Fe.
- El Farolito
Bed & Breakfast Inn (1.0 mile), 514 Galisteo St. 988-1631.
Optimum location right between the shul and the Plaza, with a
pleasant walk to each.
To shul: south on Galisteo, right on Alta Vista, right
on Don Diego to shul. Again, the rose garden and the walk
down Galisteo are very nice.
- El Paradero
Bed & Breakfast (1.0 mile), 220 W. Manhattan Av 988-1177.
Located right next to El Farolito.
To shul: see El Farolito.
- Pueblo
Bonito Bed & Breakfast Inn (1.0 mile), 138 W. Manhattan
Av 984-8001. Located right next to El Farolito. A
visitor who recently stayed here reported that it was very charming
and homey.
To shul: see El Farolito.
- Residence
Inn by Marriott (1.0 mile), 1698 Galisteo, (505) 988-7300,
1-800-331-3131, 120 rooms/suites/kitchens. On the opposite
side of the shul from the Plaza, so it's about 2.5 miles from
the Plaza.
To shul: north on Galisteo, left on Alta Vista,
right on Don Diego to shul. The walk along this part of
Galisteo is okay, but less charming than from the other side.
You will see the rose garden at Galisteo and Alta Vista.
In addition, there are several hotels (generally on the pricier
side) clustered near the Plaza. Among others, these hotels
include Inn of the Governors, Hotel St. Francis, Santa Fe Hilton,
Eldorado, La Fonda and La Posada. A good listing of accommodations
with comments can be found in the Lodging
Directory of the "Collector's Guide to the Art of New Mexico"
site. Another listing of accommodations can be found at the
Accommodations
page of the Santa Fe Conventions and Visitors Bureau website. Also
visit the home page of that site for a calendar of events and other
information.
Weather and Walking Tips
Please be advised that there is no eruv in Santa Fe.
Santa Fe is high in the mountains (7000 feet!) and the weather
here can change very quickly. You can check the current conditions
and a five-day forcast at Yahoo
Weather. A hat is recommended for rain and bright sun (besides,
you're Jewish). Sidewalks are maintained by the property owners,
and vary from good to gravel to nonexistent. Also, you may tire
easily due to the high altitude, so try to leave plenty of time
to walk to shul. The humidity is extremely low, so we recommend
drinking a lot of water. If the day gets warm, it is usually possible
to leave items of clothing at the shul for pickup after Shabbat.
Despite these warnings, walking to shul in Santa Fe can be a beautiful
and peaceful experience.
