movies: fast five

Fast Five

Dwayne Johnson, in purely visual terms, completely upstaged Vin Diesel in Fast Five.
He had more presence, more strength, more charisma. Seeing the two of them in the same shot, it was clear who was the winner, visually.

(for some reason I went through a long period where I would watch movies with the sound off.)

Unmute the sound, however, and see all of Vin Diesel's backstory, relative humanism (you know, him being the stoic hero, caretaker, and all), and Dwayne Johnson becomes the villain very quickly. But purely visually, Dwayne Johnson upstages him.

Good action shots in this movie, stuntwork. Really impressive, good quality.

I finally watched this movie with sound. And it was good on one level, completely ludicrous on another. See this Onion video:

One thing Dwayne Johnson just barely doesn't pull off is delivery of the line: "You know I like my dessert first" -- followed by, "Allright, give me the damn veggies" .. this borders on unintentionally comical .. I don't know why he's unable to pull this off .. maybe he's not mean enough? in tone, in sound? yikes ..
