movies: the fast and the furious

 

The Fast and the Furious One of my favorite movies. The Fast and the Furious (remake) was an important movie in my estimation, because it put SoCal import car culture on the map. It gave a culture a voice. This movie had a Star Wars quality to it. I can't explain it. Perhaps it was the formation of the three cars that looked/felt like TIE fighters , perhaps it was all the speed. George Lucas was obsessed with speed, and it came out in his movies. It was in the DNA. Fast and the Furious is, obviously, obsessed with speed. Perhaps this is the parallel here. 2 Fast 2 Furious I always liked Devon Aoki in 2 Fast 2 Furious. She had good presence, was very present, and was a good role model to girls. She connected well. Love her. Strangely the shifting sequences are not that good. Ben Affleck did better in The Town, which was of course inspired by John Frankenheimer and possibly Walter Hill in The Driver. Eva Mendes is beautiful, isn't she? But she can't act. - Why do people engage in car chases? It's primal. It's not supposed to make sense.
