"Humans with a Vulcan, you're -- you're from the future!" Kirk: "... What if it turns out you're an invading alien from the future?" Are these concepts, uttered in Act I of Assignment: Earth, were these to become the inspiration for the premise of Star Trek: First Contact? I dunno, Gary Seven and Kirk uttered these two lines, and I heard two bits of the basic premise of ST: First Contact. Humans with a Vulcan, defined as the beginning of the Federation ; an invading alien from the future, the basic premise of the Borg going back in time to 21st century Earth, to prevent Zefrem Cochrane from making first contact ... what if the producers of Star Trek were reviewing old episodes of TOS, heard these two lines, and thought, that'd make a great movie story ... the beginnings of a great premise for a movie ... I like Gary Seven's non-lethal weapon, how it puts everyone to sleep, peacefully. very advanced, the sign of an advanced, benevolent intelligence. The lack of a need to kill, to harm, to injure, to achieve means. This small bit speaks volumes. Everything about this episode is awesome. Strong characters, well-thought out dynamics, sets, settings -- it would've made a great series. Indeed, many people respond to it as I have ... some have even created fan-made trailers Great dynamic between a snobby computer with an attitude, and Gary Seven. Great dynamic between Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln. This was the makings of a great series. 'beta 9 snobbery'
