ST: Voyager S02E01 - the 37s Earhart's decision to stay on the planet seems out of character. She is an adventurer, like Janeway, an explorer and a leader. It makes perfect sense for her to go back with Voyager and re-discover her old home. But then, if she accompanied Voyager back to earth, it would throw off the whole show, the whole basic story. For preservation of the premise, she *has* to stay. Interesting plot point about if enough crew left Voyager, they'd be stranded. That's good conceptualization, good thinking and visualizing the dynamics of the ship. However, an entire ship landing on the planet, and only a half dozen people leave on a landing party? That seems ridiculous and far-fetched. Voyager having travelled through space as long as they have, I would think that given this situation they would amass several scores of landing parties, perhaps hundreds, to gather materials and resources, even for people to disembark - it seems ludicrous to have that entire ship just sitting there and the entire crew just stays on it. From a logistical and functional standpoint, it doesn't make sense. Far better to have as many people as possible disembark, replenish systems, take advantage of the outside eco-system - a ship like that benefits from refueling and loading up on supplies, in the multiple sense of the word. The scene where Janeway opens the entrance to the cargo bay is quite touching. She can say so much with just a look.
