AWA VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES

Toy Project 2009

Stay tuned for news about our 2009 efforts!

If you are interested in hosting a toy party this year please contact Jim Linn (323-1499) to coordinate a time.  I can promise a great time will be had by all those who attend.

Last year we made 1,800 toys which were distributed to needy children last Christmas. It would be great if we could do the same or better this year.

All AWA members,

Please take note of the following information regarding an expansion of our Toy Project at Valley and Highland High Schools:

Toy Project Update and Needed Help

As announced last meeting (August), Valley High plans to continue participation with AWA in crafting toys.  The tentative schedule for that effort is the last week of October (Oct 27 – 31) and the first week of November (Nov 3-7).  We will need to support that effort with at least three people during their classes plus setup time before.

New this year, Ada Rippberger, at Highland has asked that we also establish a toy making effort at Highland.  She was the woodshop teacher two years ago at Valley and is familiar with the Valley setup, and says we can almost duplicate it, although her shop is slightly smaller.  We have tentatively agreed on the first full week of October.  She has approximately 4 ½  hours a day of woodshops that we will be working with.  We need to support it at probably the same level as Valley (3 persons).  While it is obviously a large increase in effort on our part, it should have a very large payoff in toys crafted.

We desperately need commitments from our group in order to support these efforts.  Would everyone please check your schedules and try to find some time to help.  We will have signup lists at the meeting on Sept 13  so be prepared.  The Highland effort is coming up very fast!

We may have to tradeoff some of our toy parties for leading these high school efforts, but lets try it and see if it doesn’t work out well.

Any questions or volunteering even sooner can be directed to Jim Linn (323-1499).

Thanks everyone,

John Ellis
