Here's an example of e-mail that I received recently. The message is in MIME format, quite possibly the default, with or without the permission and/or knowledge of the user.
The relevant part of the message comprises five (5) lines of text, three of which are blank lines (which are not only alright, but to be encouraged in the interest of readability).
The total for this message, not counting e-mail headers which are necessary, comprised 110 lines of text and 2,927 characters as a result of the MIME and HTML --- to send a message of 42 characters plus a few newlines. What an incredible waste of network resources!
