1815 Peter Dilly and wife Nancy had a son Joseph chr. 19 Nov 1815 at Somerset Co., PA, Stonycreek Twp., Glade Reformed Lutheran Church (That was time Joseph Dilley was apprenticing there as a blacksmith; They also had a son John chr. there the year before. Were our John and Joseph living there as relatives? Thelma Reeder note!)

Late 1700s Mrs. McDonough of SLC Utah had in the Helper Read: information on Martin Dilley & wife Catherine, b late 1700s in VA, one known son--Jacob. (Note by Thelma: could this be the Rev. War Martin? If her facts are sound')

Geography In West Virginia

By Marvin O. Hill

Prior to the early 1790s, practically everything in what is now West VA was then Augusta Co., VA. What is now Pocahontas Co. was mostly in Bath Co. VA in the early 1790s. Pocahontas Co. was formed in 1821, and West Virginia became a state in 1863.

The earliest documentation on Martin and Henry Dilley, that I have found, is a land purchase they made together, on "Knaps Creek" in Bath Co., VA. They bought 200 acres of land for 100 pounds, "current money of Virginia." The Knapps Creek drainage basin is entirely within Pocahontas Co., W. VA.

"1814 Dilley: Christian in Nicholas Co. on Strange Creek." Nicholas Co. at one time covered quite a large territory It was later divided up into smaller counties. One such county is now Clay Co., W. VA. In the eastern extreme of Clay Co. is a small community called Dille, W. VA. It sits along Strange Creek.

I wonder if this should actually be "Dilley" after Christian? There is actually a small stream which flows from the west into Strange Creek at Dille, called Dille Creek.
