Randolph County
I John Wilson Clerk of the Court of the County of Randolph do hereby Certify That an advertisement was posted on the door of the Court house of the said County on several court days of September and October terms in the presin year 1801 stateing that a petition would be prefered to the Honbl the General assembly of this Commonwealth at their next session to add the Settlement of Buckhannon to the county of Harrison
To the Legislature of Virginia
The Inhabitants of the Buchannon Settlement in Randolph County beg leave to represent that their present situation and inconvenience in attending the courts & musters Elections etc. at the Court House of their County require the kind interference oŁ the Legislature without which they are liable to be deprived of the invaluable rights of Suffrage & a participation of Justice in proof whereof we submit the following facts, our Settlement contains nearly one third of the population of the County & is situate from thirty or fourty miles from the Court House the only road we have to travel is merely a path almost impassible for single horses & crosses three Rivers remote from any settlement and several very large Mountains and we seem separated from all our other County men by insuperable bars of nature, we pray therefor that you will attach & add us to the County of Harrison by the following boundaries, viz begin on the dividing ridge at the head of Stone Cole & run down bull Run to French Creek & with sd creek to the Buchannon River & down the same to the lines of Christopher Straders Survey thence with the same reversed to John Jackson's lines & with same to the mouth of Childers Run & thence down the Buckhannon River to the Harrison County line & with the same line to the beginning & we will ever pray
