Notes from The Christian Advocate
(Catlettsburg KY Methodist Episcopal, South publication).

1-5-1889 p. 12 George A. Hoover was born in Bath Co., VA 18 MAY 1821, the son of John and Mary Jane Hoover. He was the second of eight children, all boys except the eldest. He married Alice C. M[i]ller 20 FEB 1851. They had eleven children, five boys and six girls, all of which grew to adulthood. They moved to Lewis Co. in the 1860's, settling near Walkersville. He claimed to have seen and talked with Clay, Calhoun, Webster, Tyler and Harrison during his life. He died 11 NOV 1888.

8-24-1889 p. 12 Emmaline Stalnaker was born 23 OCT 1870 and died 24 JUL 1899. She had a younger sister and brother. Her mother died before her. Reported from the Randolph Circuit.

10-26-1889 p. 10 Adam Racier was born in Greenbrier Co. on 10 DEC 1811, the son of George and Mary (Craig) Rader. He and his family moved to (now) Webster Co. in about 1826. He married Elizabeth McClang and they had four children, one died in infancy and the rest survive. His wife died 16 OCT 1849 and he married Miss Elizabeth Morton 1 AUG 1853. They had two who died young. He owned a mill and suffered a lot of losses during the war. (No death date was mentioned in his obituary.)

1-25-1890 p. 12 Nancy Goff, the wife of Strother G. Goff, was born in Monongalia Co. eighty-three years ago. She was the daughter of John Riddle. They moved to (now) Gilmer Co. around 1812 or 1814. She died 21 DEC 1889. Her husband, three sons and two daughters survived her.

2-15-1890 p. 12 Robert L R. Chambers, the eldest son of Rev. W. R. and Susannah Chambers, was born in Philippi on 19 JUN 1871. He died at Burnsville, Braxton Co on 13 JAN 1890. His mother, father and two brothers survived him.

2-22-1890 p. 12 Allie J. Crim (nee Hall) was born in Barbour Co., VA 9 Jan 1836 and died in Philippi on 1 FEB 1890. She married Hon. J. N. B. Crim on21 APR 1858. Her children were a son, Edward, in Philippi, and a daughter, Mary, the wife of Melvill Peck

8-16-1890 Nimrod Taylor died 28 JAN 1890 at his son's residence near New Interest. He left a wife and nine children (one of them was J. C. Taylor). He was born and raised in Randolph County.

3-23-1872 p. 2 Eli Butcher, born in Randolph Co., VA on 12 NOV 1845 and died 5 NOV 1871. He had a father, mother, brothers, and sisters. His death was reported from the St. George Circuit.

The Central Methodist

2-7-1874 p. 6 Mrs. Deborah Hoffman was born in Pendleton Co., VA on 10 APR 1820, the daughter of the late Andrew and (surviving) Catherine Jordan, who later lived in Whiteside Co., IL She married Nathan D. Hoffman in Randolph Co., VA on 23 NOV 1841 and moved to Whiteside Co., IL in 1857. She died at her sister's in Darke Co., OH on 29 OCT 1873.

12-9-1876 p. 3 Elizabeth Rader was born in Randolph Co., VA 1 DEC 1836, the daughter of Jacob and Abigail Myers. She married Ad. H. Rader in Green(e) Co., PA and was in Roane Co. by 1868. She died of Typhoid fever 29 OCT 1876. Her husband and several children survive.

9-22-1877 p. 6 Joseph Harding was born in Nelson Co:, KY on 15 SEP 1803. At the age of 6 he moved with his parents to Frederick Co., VA. After his marriage he lived in several states until 1852 when he permanently settled in Randolph Co., VA. He died 9 JUN 1877. A wife, 1 son and 4 daughters survived him. He was buried in the Phares Cemetery in Randolph Co.

12-8-1877 p. 6 Louisa V. Shrieve was born on 11 MAR 1853 in Upshur Co. and married Henry Shrieve at the age of 18. She died on 27 OCT 1877 at the residence of A. Shifflet in Randolph Co., WV. Her husband and 3 children survive.

1-31-1880 p. 7 Elam Hart was born in Randolph Co., VA 22 MAY 1824. He married Martha Wilmoth 20 JAN 1847, but within a few years his wife and 2 children had died. He married Mary Corrick 2 SEP 1855, and died 21 NOV 1879. Hart's Chapel in was built in New Interest through his efforts shortly after the war. He left a wife and three children.

6-13-1880 p. 3 Mary E. Hall died 5 APR 1880 near Mingo Church in Randolph Co., WV. She was the wife of Robert Hall, was 22 years old and her maiden name was Wood. She left a husband and an infants 5 days old.

2-27-1886 p. 7 Elizabeth M. Kittle, the daughter of Absalom and Mary Shifflet, was born 8 JAN 1851 in Upshur Co. She married Squire B. Kittle on 13 MAY 1867 and died 22 SEP 1886 near West Huttonsville. She had 8 children, 1 of them died in infancy. Her husband and 7 children survive.
