NELSON / HEDRICK / BENNETT / TURNER
by Stephanie Armstrong

With the writing of this story I have just now realized what I may be getting into. The whole situation is mixed up and it could get quite messy trying to choose what to use and what not to use in this story.

It all starts with my Great-Great-Great Grandmother Elizabeth Catherine Nelson who gave birth to my Great-Great Grandmother Mattie May Hedrick on December 19, 1902. The story was told that "Lizzy" lived in a poor house at Blue Grass, Virginia ran by the Henry C. Mullenax family, and got pregnant. Some say that Mattie's father was a Mullenax and that she took the name Hedrick after Able Hedrick came and took Mattie and Lizzy away leaving Lizzy's other little girl Mable Nelson at the poor house.

Next Mattie gives birth to my Great-Grandmother Emma Louise Hedrick on June 29, 1920. The birth certificate at the Pocahontas County courthouse says that her father is Adam Bennett, but the family believes that she was the child of Able Hedrick, who was Mattie's step father.

Then Emma Louise Hedrick gives birth to Betty Marie Turner on July 30, 1938 in Durbin West Virginia. Her father was Clifford Turner. After that Louise had five other children. Three were from her first marriage to a Lambert and two were by her second marriage to a VanPelt.

Betty then in 1963, at age 24 gave birth to my mother Sherry Jo Sutherland, whose father was Jerry Teddy Oral Sutherland who at the time was 19 years old.

Then moving along, Sherry Jo married David Armstrong on September 26, 1980. On January 7, 1982 in Morgantown West Virginia she gave birth to me, Stephanie Jo Armstrong.
