News and Notes, ARHFS V6 I3

Maxine Santmyer Passes Away: All of us in ARFHS are sorry to hear of the recent death of Maxine Santmyer, a long time researcher and genealogist and ARFHS member. Mrs. Santmyer was 73 and had been an active researcher for years, being a member in addition to ARFRS in the Connecticut Genealogy Society. Mrs. Santmyer was born at Keyser and had worked at Tyre Shoes and Lambs Jewelers in Elkins. Maxine Santmyer was an active participant in local history and genealogy and will be missed by all of us who knew her.

Chapman Book Published: The long awaited cemetery record book by Charlie and Odie Chapman is now available. "They Rest Quietly" is the result of years of work by the Chapmans in collecting and preserving cemetery readings in Randolph County. Additional research has been done on some of the listings. The book is 8 1/2 X ii, 556 pages and contains 27000 listings. The research for this book was completed many years ago and it will contain some listings for stones that no longer survive. The recent Cemetery publications of ARFHS will contain many stones that did not exist at the time the Chapmans did their canvas. So persons interested in local cemeteries may want to have both works. The Chapman publication is $85.00 plus $3.00 shipping and 6% tax for WV residents. Send orders to: Charles Chapman, Rt 1 BOX 186, Beverly, WV, 26253

ARFHS New Library: The new family history library in Beverly, WV is now open. All interested parties are invited to stop by on Wednesday or Saturday afternoon to see the new library.

ARFHS NEW PEDIGREE BOOK OUT: Volume 2 of the Allegheny Regional Family History Society Pedigree Charts is back from the printer and ready for purchase. The book was prepared by ARFHS members David Armstrong and Jeff Harris, and contains a good many member submitted pedigree charts and a complete every name index. This work is valuable not only for the genealogical information therein but also for the fact that it is another handy way to find out which members are working on which families. The book is $15.00 for non members and $13.50 for members. Place orders at the group PO Box.

ARFHS SHARE DAY: This year the ARFHS held it's "share day" genealogy workshop in May at the Tucker County Senior Center.
