Dr. J A. DUNN's CURRICULUM BREVI
HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
Like many health care professionals Dr. Dunn began her career
in Natural Healing after a long bout of ill-health, which made her
seek out alternatives. When the medical Profession had no answers for her,
she found her way eventually to a Kinesiologist who was able to help her
regain her health.
EDUCATION
Her exposure to Kinesiology peaked her interest and she began studying
Kinesiology and Nutrition. She became certified in Touch for Health,
Educational Kinesiology, and Kinesionics. With these techniques she began
to have good success with a variety of ailments. She decided to further
her studies and went back to school to earn her bachelor of Science
Degree in Natural Sciences and her Doctorate in Chiropractic at Palmer
College in Davenport, Iowa.
OCCUPATION AND EXPERIENCE
She founded the High Level Wellness Center in Albuquerque in 1995 and
has great success with many different health challenges. The clinic
is home to 12 different practitioners including Acupuncturists, Massage
Therapists, a hypnotherapist and other Kinesiologists.
PHILOSOPHER
Her philosophy is to treat the person as a whole being, not just as a collection
of parts and symptoms. Her view is that the body has an amazing ability
to be whole and healthy if it is given the right
tools (that is the right nutrients, the right attitude and a healthy
lifestyle). Using the very powerful tool of Kinesionics muscle
testing she is able to determine where the body is out of balance and
what it will take to bring it back into balance, thus helping
to restore health.
EDUCATOR
Dr, Dunn became an instructor of Kinesionics in 1991, teaching alongside
the developer of the technique, Karta Purkh Singh Khalsa. She eventually
began to develop her own technique which combines many other healing modalities
with the Kinesiology and is now the sole instructor of Wholistic Kinesiology.
Classes are held at High Level Wellness
Center on an ongoing basis.
Editor's Note: Dr. Dunn's
CV is overly modest in that she has been able to effectively help even
a breast cancer patient with a psychological aversion to conventional treatment
so bad that the individual could not even go near an allopathic doctor's
office without suffering a panic attack. The simple act of sitting still
and allowing someone to draw blood was not possible for this individual.
Although classically trained scientists may have been indoctrinated
to have an initial aversion to kinesiology, they cannot deny the very real
and scientifically documented placebo effect and our own natural instincts
to eat what is right and needed by the body for good health. It is only
through being bombarded by junk food advertising and constrained by our
own rationalizations in a fast- paced lifestyle that we find ourselves
slighting our nutrition and health to save time at our own peril. Consequently,
addressing the psychological is just as important as the physical in effecting
lifestyle changes that lead to better health. Kinesiology is a way of empowering
the individual to meditate and make these changes, themselves, thereby
making the individual in large part responsible for their own health.
Allopathic practitioners, no doubt, are incredibly frustrated by
patients who should lose weight and stop smoking, but are never able to
make the necessary lifestyle changes to accomplish these goals. A more
wholistic, integrative approach helps to overcome these problems by making
the patient part of the team.
It is interesting that Dr. J evolved from an initial interest in
kinesiology into a much broader spectrum of "scientific", integrative,
and "alternative" health approaches. Like others on our Board, Dr. J seems
to have an unquenchable desire to know and understand more about how our
bodies work and what makes us healthy and keeps us that way. As such, she
is an invaluable asset, resource, and sounding "Board" for our non-profit's
innovative approaches to health care.
