2025 CFOD PLAYOFF PREVIEW MANTLE/KOUFAX CONFERENCE FINALS Fertile Crescent Ziggurats (104-58, MK Conference wildcard, 4-1 over Arthropods in Round 1) vs. Cincinnati Rock (108-54, Koufax Division winner, 4-0 over Angry Candy in Round 1) The Ziggurats challenged the Rock for the Koufax Division title all season before grabbing the MK Conference wildcard (and the league's 2nd best record), then defeated the Arthropods in 5 games to reach the conference finals. Corbin Carroll hit .333 with a home run, 5 runs scored and 8 RBI in 5 games, and Luke Keaschall hit .375 with a home run, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI. Roman Anthony added 4 runs scored. Yoshinobu Yamamoto was 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA in 2 starts, and Trevor Rogers was 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA in his lone start. Matt Brash had a save and a 0.00 ERA in 2 appearances. Kyle Tucker doubled and scored on a double from Ronny Mauricio. 3-0 Cincinnati after 2 innings. The Rock scored another run in the 4th when Tucker doubled, moved to third on a Mauricio fly out and scored on a Jeff McNeil ground out. The Ziggurats scored a run in the 6th on a solo home run from Jorge Polanco. 4-1 Rock after 6. The score was still 4-1 Cincinnti going into the top of the 9th. Closer Adrian Morejon was pitching for the Rock. Justyn-Henry Malloy was the first batter, and the first out with a fly out. Corbin Carroll walked to put a runner on base. Jared Triolo grounded out, putting Carroll into scoring position with 2 outs. Morejon finished up the game, getting Yainer Diaz to strike out for the final out of the game. Isaac Collins singled, bringing the winning run to the plate in Jorge Polanco. But Morejon continued his post-season domination, getting Polanco to fly out for his 4th save of the post-season. With 2 outs, Isaac Collins doubled, scoring Polanco. Carroll tied to score as well but was thrown out at home. 2-1 Ziggurats after 3. In the bottom of the 5th, Masyn Winn singled and moved to second on a walk to Roman Anthony. With 1 out, Freddy Peralta balked, moving the runners up 90 feet. Corbin Carroll grounded out, allowing Winn to score for a 3-1 Fertile Crescent lead. In the top of the 7th, Bryan Abreu was pitching for the Ziggurats. After Alec Bohm struck out, pinch hitter Ronny Mauricio homered on a 3-2 pitch, cutting the Ziggrats' lead to 1. Kyle Tucker struck out for out #2. Corey Seager doubled to put the go-ahead run at the plate in Kyle Higashioka. The Fertile Crescent bullpen was able to hold on, getting Higashioka to ground out to end the game. In this closely fought series, the Ziggurats came up on top in game 4 by a slim 5-4 margin to even up the series. In the top of the 3rd, the Ziggurats cut the lead to 1 when Chourio hit a 2 out double and scored on a base hit by Jorge Polanco. In the bottom of the 3rd, Ernie Clement and Miguel Andujar hit singles with 0 out. Alec Bohm singled, scoring Clement. Wenceel Perez singled to load the bases. Trevor Rogers was done for the day, and on came Justin Wrobleski. Kyle Tucker hit into a potential double play, but made it to first in time, allowing Andujar to score. 5-2 Rock after 3. The Rock added to their lead in the 4th with an Ernie Clement home run. The Rock then opened the floodgates in the 5th, scoring 5 runs, highlighted by a 3-run home run from Danny Jansen. Another run by Cincinnati in the 6th put them up 12-2. The Ziggurats would make some noise in the 7th, tagging reliever Tyler Ferguson for 5 runs, but it would not be enugh. Cincinnati wins game 6 by a final score of 13-7 to even up the series. Game 7 will determine who the MK Conference representative is for the CFOD World Series.
