The Staff of Blackshear Housecalls are myself, Kathleen Blackshear, DVM, and my niece, Kristin McElroy.
About me:
I was born and raised in Albuquerque, and graduated from UNM in 1977, and from Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1981.
I LOVE veterinary medicine and now I have found my niche as a house-call practitioner! I can develop a relationship with my clients and their pets, and I can offer excellent medicine in the safety and comfort of their home.

I have lived and practiced in New Mexico almost exclusively since I graduated: I have been an 'Associate Veterinarian' in large and small practices, in emergency and non-emergency oriented hospitals. I studied for and achieved "Diplomate" status from the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in 1989, and have been a member of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society for many years.
On the personal side, I enjoy skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, camping, backpacking, road and mountain bike cycling, and motorcycling! I share my home with 1 cat and 3 dogs, all of whom put up with me!
Kristin is a pre-veterinary student at UNM. She is my Veterinary Assistant,
she's my niece, and I couldn't be luckier!! She is very intelligent, very observant,
and has a special touch with animals that makes them feel safe - a true gift!!
On top of all that, she has a great sense of humor, and keeps track of my stethoscope,
manages the paperwork and the phone, too!
