Helix Design

This bowl is about 4 1/2" high by 10" in diameter, and has about 90 pieces. The body of the bowl is walnut. The helix pattern is made from cherry, padauk, and walnut. The white accent rings are maple. This pattern was the result of an awful lot of hard thinking, and shows a concrete, practical example of why one might want to be good at trigonometry.

An interesting note about this design is that the construction technique I use requires making the detail in left- and right-handed pairs. I guess this is one more piece of evidence in favor of the theory that what goes up must come down.
