University Heights Association Board Meeting Wednesday, April 14, 1999 Approved Minutes I. Preliminary Items A. Call to order: 7:09 pm. Board members in attendance were Danny Hernandez, Brian Ruhm, Don Hancock, Clay Campbell, Ron Fuss, Marlene Brown, David Miertschin. B. Introductions: Others in attendance were: Mark Dalen, Bailey Ruhm, and Charles Watts from the Silver Hill Neighborhood Association, and Andy Lenderman. C. The agenda was approved. D. The minutes of the March 10, 1999 meeting were approved as presented. E. Financial Status: Interest in March is the only change. F. Open Forum: Charles Watts mentioned that the new owners at the former Circle K location were family members and Silver Hill had asked them to take out their payphones because they can be used from drug calls. Danny suggested that Smith's get a better bike rack. There appears to be a commercial activity at the southwest corner of Princeton and Silver. No progress on ABC Rental. II. Action items--None. III. Discussion items A. Block Party. It was agreed to do a joint fall party with Silver Hill, tentatively scheduled on Saturday, August 28 at Heights Community Center. B. Spring cleanup. The dumpster is reserved at the corner of Vassar and Garfield, volunteers will gather at the church at 9 on Saturday and clean up the alleys. C. Silver Avenue Task Force. David reported that the next task force meeting would be on Saturday, May 1 to come up with proposals for a neighborhood meeting on May 19. D. Newsletter. Danny and Mark have been getting articles. The newsletter will have three pages the same and the fourth page will be just for Silver Hill or UHA. Silver Hill wants 400 copies. E. Cats and animals. Marlene has talked with City Animal Control. The neutering clinic is finished for this year. F. Y2K. Marlene reported that the City's website has little information. She discussed the Cassandra Project which has a videotape that could be used, and Clay showed the Utne Reader Citizen's Guide to Y2K. General agreement that UHA could spend some money to help provide resources for neighborhood discussions to allow people to become better informed and to get to know each other better. G. Office of Neighborhood Coordination. Clay picked up the handbook that the City has for neighborhood association board members. Agreed that we would not have ONC representatives come, but we could duplicate the handbook as necessary. IV. Information items A. Co-President's Report-None. B. Secretary/Treasurer-None. V.
