Cysts Definition: Cysts are incased structures within the skin, below the skin, within glands, within breasts, within muscles, within kidneys, within livers, within the ovaries and other parts of the body. Cysts have a lining of cells then there is fluid or gland secretions in the center. If the cysts get infected they can fill with necrotic material and with pus. There are adrenal cysts, acne cysts, bone cysts, cysts of the breast, Dandy-Walker cysts, epididymal cysts, hydatid cysts, sebaceous cysts, nasopharyngeal cysts, ovarian cysts, renal cysts, spermatic cysts, and liver cysts. Therapy: In many cases cysts are just left alone. If the cysts become large, they are termed space occupying lesions and surgical excision will relieve the symptoms associated with space occupying lesions which are the pressing in on other parts of the body with the most common symptom being pain and paresthesias.
