Femur Fracture Definition: The femur is the bone from the pelvis to the knee. It is long bone with weight bearing responsibility. A fracture of this bone requires no weight bearing of that leg for 4-6 weeks. Therapy: Therapy is initially started with stabilization and immobilization. This fracture may require open stabilization and immobilization along with cast therapy. With skin lacerations, the chances of infections and osteomyelitis increase. This injury will require no weight bearing for 4-6 weeks and serious physical therapy for complete healing which will take 3 months or more. If Problems: Problems occur when trying to bear weight to early or cast or splint problems. Seek medical attention if any problems occur.
