The Reverend Sam Jones amends this law to note that it should refer to one's own definitions of desirability; the "asshole quotient" may be higher in groups that have properties defined as undesirable by the observer. So, e.g., if I find a group of fairly liberal-minded, queer, computer-sympathetic, faintly paranoid types, still about 10% of them will be assholes. (At minimum.) However, a crowd of Rush Limbaugh fans, to me, might well approach 100% assholes.
Conversely, on the optimistic side, it should be noted that groups with opinions that one disagrees with passionately, to the extent of usually foaming at the mouth about what assholes they are, always seem to contain one or two examples of oddly reasonable, charming people. Come to think of it, maybe that's sinister. In any case, while I have known Limbaugh fans that I thought were actually decent human beings (my half-brother among them), I have yet to meet a neo-Nazi I liked.
