West Mesa's theory of dog teaching is "DOGS DON'T SPEAK ENGLISH."

West Mesa School for Dogs offers progressive obedience classes, using positive reinforcement and motivational techniques. You must teach your dog what the English words mean before understanding can happen. We believe Attitude is your greatest asset!

Teaching you to teach your dog is our Specialty. A full time assistant is present during every basic class to answer questions and give extra help as needed. West Mesa has a 2,500 square foot facility with fully matted floors specifically designed for dog teaching. We also limit the size of our classes. Our school is located at 4487 Irving Blvd., 1/2 mile West of Coors Road on the North side of Irving. Watch for the "G-Force Gymnastics" sign and turn at this driveway. (See map).

All obedience classes are designed and taught by Trish Barry. Trish has been teaching obedience since 1982 and has earned over 20 Obedience and Tracking titles on her own dogs. Her dogs have included a Springer Spaniel, German Shepherds, Toy Poodles and Papillons. She is currently working with her Papillon, “Snickers” who has won High in Trial honors in both National and Specialty Obedience competitions. Trish stays current in dog training techniques and philosophies by attending training seminars, continuing teaching, and by participating in obedience competitions all over the country.

Realizing there was a need for compassionate, progressive obedience teaching for both the general public and the competitive sportsman, Trish founded West Mesa School for Dogs in 1985. She believes honest evaluation, individualized attention, and continuation of her education in the field of dog obedience are the keys to her student's and West Mesa's success.

Students of West Mesa have earned well over 200 obedience titles on their dogs, including several Obedience Titled Champions, the most coveted award offered by the American Kennel Club. Students have also participated in their breed’s National Specialties and the American Kennel Club’s National Obedience Invitational competition.
