F Programming Books

Several books on the F programming language are now available.

• Programmer's Guide to F by Walt Brainerd, Charlie Goldberg, and Jeanne Adams, ISBN 0-9640135-1-7, approximately 400 pages, published by The Fortran Company, US$33. This is a tutorial introduction suitable for a beginner with many complete example programs. It is similar in style to Programmer's Guide to Fortran 90 by the same authors.

• essential Fortran 90 & 95 by Loren Meissner, ISBN 0-9640135-3-3, published by Unicomp, US$39. This is a textbook designed with emphasis on numerical computing in science and engineering. Here is a list of contents. It is based on Meissner's book Fortran 90.

  All of the examples conform to both F and Essential Lahey Fortran and there is an appendix comparing the two subset languages.

  Lots of examples from the book are available in electronic form. They are all in one big file along with test input data.

• F Tutorial by Robert Moniot of Fordham University is a brief tutorial on F for those especially interested in numerical computations. It is available only in PDF format, purchased from the Fortran Store and delivered by e-mail.
