Guide to Duncan Super Yo-Yos
Now that there's a new version of the Duncan Super available in stores,
I thought it would be helpful to include a guide on how to tell the old ones from the new. You can click on the logos shown below to see the yo-yos if you'd like. Also included for your viewing pleasure is a bonus jeweled version of the Duncan Super. Pretty Cool, huh ?!?
The first two logos shown below are from the original 50's Duncan Supers. The major difference between the two is that the second says "Tournament Return Tops", while the first only says "Tournament Tops". Notice the subtle differences ... On the second logo, the word "Duncan" is larger in proportion to the rest of the logo, and the word "Tops" actually breaks the bottom of the circle. On the first, "Tops" is well inside the bottom circle. Also notice an important thing that both 50's versions have in common ... the trademark sign, "r" in a small circle, just below the dash in "Yo-Yo".
Now let's compare the third logo, which is from the 1996 version, to the 50's Duncan Supers. While the logo is very similar to the first one, there is one major difference. Notice that the trademark sign does NOT appear below the dash in "Yo-Yo". Instead, look closely to the right of the "N" in "Duncan". It's hard to see, but the small dot is the trademark sign. The location of the trademark sign is the easiest way to tell the old Duncan Supers from the new.
Duncan Jeweled Super Tournament Tops
Here's your bonus yo-yo. This is a jeweled version of
the Duncan Super from the 50's. It's a painted one piece
wooden yo-yo. Notice how the rhinestones were placed
right across the logo, and even cover up parts of it. This
was also done on some of the earlier wooden Duncans
from the 30's and 40's. These were probably made
before Duncan officially came out with the "Jeweled"
wooden model. Some of these jeweled versions of
regular models may also have been contest awards. I'm
looking for more of these unusual jeweled yo-yos.
