Laser-assisted bas-relief

In th Galisteo Basin Preserve southeast of Santa Fe there is a lovely trail called the Sphinx loop. The highest point is the Sphinx overlook. A nice place to linger, but there is no place to sit down, especially if you just had a double knee replacement. So I decided to make a little bench and put it there.
It is made out of some scrap lumber, and I wanted to make a bas-relief on the top surface. I grabbed an image from the web, and simplified it a lot (using Inkscape), then cut the image on the big laser cutter at Make Santa Fe, about 1/2"deep. The rest is done the old-fashioned way.
