Booth street - current situation

This drawing shows the current situation. Booth runs from left to right, and traffic is allowed in both directions. The curb-to-curb width is about 30', and cars park on both sides, regardless of the color of the curb. On the left Booth crosses Don Gaspar, and in the morning and afternoon there is a crossing guard at this intersection, on the North side. Approaching this intersection from the extreme left, there is a severe dip, such that very few cars can cross Don Gaspar without scraping their noses on the pavement. Don Gaspar is a major one-way artery leading away from the downtown area. There is concern in the neighborhood about speeds on this street.

On the South side of this section of Booth, there is open space. [Currently (Feb 98), there are still some portable classrooms on the field, as indicated by the dotted lines, but they will soon be gone]. Except for the paved parking on the Eastern end, this is play space.

On the North side, starting from the West, there are some offices and a B&B between Don Gaspar and the alley that is shown on the map. These businesses use the alley for parking and access. The rest of the block is taken up by the school. The entrances to the school are marked with arrows. There is another crossing guard in front of the main entry in the middle. During the day, some (ugly) barricades are placed on the street, blocking it from the middle of the block to the Eastern end, where Booth meets Webber. On the Webber side of the school, there are two entrances for the lower grades, and there is a lot of loading/unloading activity on that side in the morning and the afternoon. There is no guarded crossing there. Speeds on Webber are also a concern for the neighborhood.

The alley, by the way, goes around the back of the school and joins Webber in the North-East corner of this drawing.
