There are two unique aspects of Marquez in this slide. The first is the
width of Marquez
from Don Diego and Don Cubero to Galisteo. The right of way is
approximately 60', which
will allow for separate sidewalks and bike path as well as the winding
trajectory feature.
All these feature are important to develop since Marquez's existing
expanse encourages
drivers to speed even more than they do west of Don Diego.
The second aspect is the large dirt lot between the Credit Union on its
west and
apartments on its east. The lot has become an impromptu parking lot for the
Alfalfas grocery store on its southern edge. The lot owner has agreed to
develop the lot as a park which
will also incorporate parking for park users and Alfalfa shoppers.
Proposal:
This section's trajectory of Camino de los Marquez
will include a curb cut on its south side, near the
credit union, to
provide access for park visitors and shoppers.
Parallel parking is allowed on the northwest part of this section of the
street. East of the intersection with Don Cubero, there are predominantly
condominiums and apartments, all with their own ample off-street parking;
therefore, from this section east there will be no more on-street parking.
Across Marquez, the corners at Don Cubero will be extended in a manner
similar to other
street corners in this project, with the entry to Don Cubero narrowed
to 19'. The park paths shown going north are aligned with the sidewalks of
Don Cubero for safe pedestrian access to the park. These
crossings, are marked.
Since the park area sees a lot of pedestrian traffic from the neighborhood
to the north and northeast, The intersection with Don Cubero is another one
selected to be raised, with a change in pavement.
