The situation in Variant 1 leads us to consider regulating the traffic
flow on Cerrillos, for example with traffic islands.
In the figure to the right, there is an
island between the truck entrance and the main entrance. This makes life
a bit easier for traffic from the E making the left turn into the main
entrance. Ideally, one would have another island south of this one, such
that exiting traffic going W would have a safe place from which to merge
into the W-bound flow. After that, there would then be a left-turn lane
accomodating traffic coming from the E turning into Gilmore. However, there
is not enough space to do all this, so that there is the same contention
for the center lane in the hatched section.
The small island does not solve many problems. This leads to the next alternative: |
