3D printing

In the the after-school tech club we teach CAD design with Tinkercad. We usually start with the wrench tutorial, then do a box with a lid to teach measurement and dimensioning, then the penguin to introduce rounded geometries, and after that, the sky is the limit.

How many pumpkins do you weigh?

I was asked to do a STEM-type activity on the theme of pumpkins for the october 2026 Science Saturday at the Santa Fe Children's Museum. I decided to build a balance where kids would be on one side, and pumpkins on the other. I made 2 dishes, and a frame in the shape of a tetrahedron, consisting of 4 poles and 2 cords. When balanced, the dishes are only a few inches off the ground, so no one can tumble from a great height.

We marked each pumpkin with its weight.
