Entrada Park Our plans for Entrada Park are making steady progress. We got CIP money, the bus stop got designed and disappeared again, we got past Public Safety, and we're starting to plan actual rocks and mortar.
Traffic Issues We have been involved in a variety of traffic issues that have impacted our neighborhood:
  • For Camino de los Marquez, we developed a complete traffic calming plan, and it got as far as to be accepted in principle by City Council. On hold for lack of funding.
  • Booth Street is the street that Wood-Gormley Elementary is on. The traffic situation there is far from ideal, and here are some alternatives.
  • The sidewalks along Cordova Road got some attention recently (1998-99). We studied the situation and came up with a plan.
  • Long ago, in 1995, I did a study of traffic calming measures on Don Diego, a street that cuts our neighborhood in two. This is what got the traffic ball rolling in our neighborhood.
  • Our plans for Entrada Park are making steady progress. In terms of traffic, we took the opportunity to re-arrange the asphalt around the park a bit, mostly getting rid of it and using the space for the park.
  • The arrival of a huge store, Whole Foods, in the neighborhood is sure to have impact on traffic. The plan we drew up is being cast in concrete at I write (October 1999).
  • There is a citizens task force to put together an ordinance to deal with traffic calming in Santa Fe.
  • Here is a link to the Santa Fe Bicycle Club.
  • Here is a link to notes from the Pedestrian Master Plan Working Group.
The Lofts A proposal was made for development of an empty space in our neighborhood, along Marquez Place. This development was approved by the Santa Fe Planning Commission, but was appealed to the City Council. The Don Canuto Neighborhood Association won its appeal before the Santa Fe City Council against the proposed development on August 24, 2000. The vote overturned the City Planning Commission's earlier approval of this project.

The Lofts and the Sellers appealed this decision by filing a lawsuit against the City of Santa Fe on September 11, 2000 in the First Judicial District Court. District Judge James A. Hall reversed the City Council on April 13, 2001. IF THIS DECISION STANDS THE LOFTS PROJECT WILL BE BUILT AT MARQUEZ PLACE. This decision challenges the ability of our City Council to make decisions on development proposals for practically any reason and has implications on the applicability of the ENN ordinance. The Don Canuto Neighborhood Association ("DCNA") strongly urges citizens to encourage our councilors to appeal this decision to the New Mexico Appeals Court. Contact Maria Baca, DCNA President, at 988-3827 for more information. Please click on this link for more details.

Safety The City is in the process of getting a community-based policing program off the ground. Here is flyer that explains the program (called COPPS) and how you can help.
