Cordova Road - proposal from the DDNA
Having reviewed the situation on the ground,
and taking into account the previously
expressed concerns from the surrounding neighborhoods, and noting
some of the problems alluded to in the city's
proposal, the DDNA
has the following recommendations:
- Place sidewalks on both sides of Cordova from the west end of
the section under consideration, up to Galisteo (the rose park).
- Place sidewalks on the north side of Cordova from Galisteo to Old
Pecos Trail, with spurs to reach bus stops just north of Cordova
on side streets.
- In view of the fact that along some sections there is not enough
space in the existing right-of-way, or construction is difficult
(see detailed descriptions), we
should take this opportunity to reduce the north side of Cordova
(westbound) between Old Pecos Trail and Galisteo to one lane. (this
would reduce construction cost of the project, as well as save 21K
in land-acquisition costs.)
On a slightly longer timescale, and under project headings other than just
'sidewalks', one would proceed and go for the following
items:
- Reworking of the Cordova-Galisteo intersection (the rose park)
- Islands, left-turn lanes and single lanes on the Galisteo-Luisa
stretch.
- Bike lanes - on Cordova, or perhaps divert bike traffic to Barcelona
- ...any other?, like generic traffic calming measures near the
shopping centers?
