We now approach the first intersection, with Cordova Place, to the north.
The curb-to-curb width is now
20' on Camino de los Marquez. Along the south curb there is parallel
parking up to the bank's parking lot entrance. The area on the top right
is a parking lot which serves the state offices further to the north on
this lot. This lot currently has entrances from Camino de los Marquez on
this map, as indicated by the dotted lines; there is another entrance to
this lot on Marquez Place, on the next detail
map.
The south side of this section is dominated by large entrances to the
bank's parking lot and drive-through.
Proposal:
Where Cordova Place
enters Camino de los Marquez from the North, the curb width on Cordova
Place will be
narrowed from 35' to 20' by increasing the width of the existing
corners. Plantings in the expanded corners, some in raised boxes,
will reinforce the perception
of narrowness and require slower speeds in turning onto Cordova Place from
Camino de los Marquez.
One of the things which makes Camino del los Marquez so unattractive is
the large number of curb cuts.
Therefore we propose to close off the entrance to the state offices'
parking lot along Marquez's north curb. Since this lot serves primarily
commuters and not the shopping public, and since restricting entry will
increase security for cars parked all day, closing that curb cut will
create advantages for the employees as well as traffic flow on Camino de
los Marquez.
On the north side, we extend the curb out a bit, visually accentuating
this by planting some trees and/or dense brush. The road jogs back to the
north as we approach the canoe storage place.
